Playhouse Pre-School
Welcome to Playhouse
We are a private, independent early years setting providing high-quality care and education for children aged 9 months to 4 years.
Established in 1979, Playhouse has been part of the local community for many years. In 2008, we moved to our current location within the grounds of Longmeadow Primary School in Stevenage, where we continue to provide a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment for young children.
We are committed to providing every child with the best possible start to their early education. Our experienced team takes part in regular training and professional development to ensure that our practice continues to meet the needs of the children in our care.
We offer funded early education and childcare places for eligible children.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection took place in 2022, when the setting was judged to be Good. You can view our Ofsted report by clicking on the Ofsted link below.

Our Rooms
We have two rooms, providing care for children at different stages of their early development.
Our Caterpillar Room welcomes babies and younger children from 9 months. We provide a nurturing environment where children can develop secure relationships, explore their surroundings and learn through play and everyday experiences.
Children move into our Butterfly Room when they are 2 years old, where they continue to develop their confidence, independence, communication, social skills and understanding through a wide range of play and learning experiences.
We recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Our staff work closely with families to ensure that each child feels safe, valued, happy and supported throughout their time at Playhouse.
Our Aim
Our aim at Playhouse Pre-School is to provide a safe, happy, stimulating, creative and well-organised environment where children are supported by caring and responsive adults.
We provide children with a wide range of opportunities to:
-
learn through play and exploration;
-
develop their confidence and independence;
-
build positive relationships with children and adults;
-
develop their communication and language skills;
-
explore their interests and develop new skills;
-
become confident, curious and motivated learners.
We work in partnership with parents and carers and value the contribution that families make to their child's learning and development.
We want every child to leave Playhouse feeling confident, capable and ready for their next step, including their transition to school.
Please explore our website to find out more about Playhouse, our rooms, our approach to learning and development, and the experiences we offer our children.

We invite all families to our annual, end of year, Summer BBQ.

Once a year, we have over a two week period. Our children have the opportunity to watch eggs hatch and to care for tiny chicks or ducklings.

Once a year, we invite all parents to join us for a big picnic at Shephalbury park. Staff are on hand with various activities and a great time is had by all.

Each year, both rooms design & build scarecrows, that are entered into the Stevenage Garden & Allotment Society competition. In 2013 the Caterpillars WON!

We enjoy a number of religious and cultural celebrations. Such as Eid, Diwali, Easter, Red Nose Day etc. At Christmas we enjoy a party.

We love to get messy! The messier the better. Messy play encourages a child's creativity in an individual and expressive way.

We have been awarded a Gold Award from Green Tree Schools for our outdoor learning successes.

We enjoy outdoor play regardless of rain or snow. If its snowing we will do our best to remain open, but will keep you posted about closures online.
